I was tripping on life’s obstacles
Everywhere I turned
The eating disorder was always just there
I yearned for a place
No triggers
No pain
No shame
My heart was shattered
I was broken
The tears were always there
My heart-wrenching cry
Escaped from my soul
As I cried out
“I just can’t!”
I was tempted to just
Turn back
My friend turned to me
And patiently explained
A blind man
Walked into a room
With a special dog,
To guid
Upon entering the room
He banged into a nail in the wall
And screams “ow!”
A few steps on
He trips over a rope
Again he cries
“Ow! it hurts!”
He madly turns to the trainer
“I thought this was a home
For blind people!
Why are you putting
Many obstacles out
If I can fall and get hurt?”
The trainer kindly explains
Life is not patted
When you go out
You may fall
You have to learn your way
Around the obstacles
In order to fight
And walk the streets of life
The same in recovery
Triggers are everywhere
We have to learn our way
Around all the stumbling stones
We may fall
But that’s ok
Thats how we learn
We need to stand back up
And become stronger
Because life is not padded
